2 Timothy 2:3 KJV
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ
I do not believe that a soldier who is skilled in all forms of warfare tactics like being able to wield a knife with great expertise, having catlike reflexes and hard muscles for hand-to-hand combat or having the ability to accurately fire a fatal head shot from afar-off acquired that level of skill in the blink of an eye. I believe he must have gone through rigorous and difficult training for an extended period of time, before the excellent result people see and admire came forth.
I believe it’s the same for the believer who Paul by the inspiration of the spirit calls a solider of Christ. The apostle tells us to do something in this verse. He tells us to endure hardship. Hardship here isn’t talking about sickness, poverty, death or any symptoms that came with the fall of man as a result of Sin. Hardship here is talking about difficult times, challenges, trials etc.
So why does Paul tell us to endure hardship? There are several reasons, but I’ll be focusing on the fact that hardship is a training ground for the believer (Rom 5:3-4, James 1:2-4). I’m not saying that these problems and difficulties come from God. I am however saying that if you let Him, this is a beautiful opportunity for Him to refine you, teach you and mold you till you fully express His person in all things you do.
So endure hardship and stand fast in the faith. God is working on you. If nothing else, let this truth comfort you: He is able to find His purpose in your pain. It won’t be in vain and at the end of it, you’ll be like that masterful and skillful soldier.
#Pray I will endure as a good soldier. Keep on molding me Lord and keep on teaching me all I need to know for the future to come.
