Matthew 7:7 says ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. A previous devotional spoke on the issue of asking, so, I will throw more light on “seeking” It is good to seek. You can seek for a job; that is very wonderful; however, I do not think the bible was necessarily talking about us seeking our earthly passions such as a job. I believe it goes beyond that. Colossians 3:1 says, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.”

So as Christians we are to seek Godly passions. Now, what are Godly passions? Well, if you go further in this chapter it is not farfetched; Paul says in v. 12, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” These are the things we should seek as children of God.

Also as Christians these things are not difficult to express because the Holy Spirit bears these fruits. This is clearly seen in Galatians 5:22-23, it says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control… ” all we need to do is to let the Holy Spirit to find expression through us. The Holy Spirit finds expression through us when we walk by faith. The bible says that we walk by faith and not by sight.

I hope we get to see that when we seek, we are not necessarily seeking for physical things such as a job; well, those things would indeed be given to you, but certainly not in the context of Matthew 7:7. So, we should endeavor that the scripture be rightly divided.

Also, it is no surprise, Jesus spoke mostly in parables. Parables are not merely stories; they are much more than stories. So, we are not doing justice to these parables if we read them literally rather than with Gods leading.

#Pray Father, I worship you for enlightenment. We thank you because your word is being rightly divided and we now understand what you really mean. Hallelujah!!! Glory!!!
