The Power Of Forgiveness
Key Scripture
1Kings 8: 50, Mat 6: 12-15, Mat 18: 21-22, Luke 17: 4
1Kings 8:50- And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them.
Mat 6:12 -And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:14 -For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat 6:15 -But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Luke 23:34 -Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Mat 18:21 -Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Till seven times?
Mat 18:22- Jesus said unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, until seventy times seven.
Luke 17:4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Truth be told, it may not be easy to forgive all the time, because sometimes it is all mixed up with disappointment and a lot of anger, but there is more strength in forgiveness. Forgiveness is an act of love and it should be done even when people do not request for it due to ignorance which could even be harder and when it gets too tough, call on God to help you forgive and let go, and even if it takes a while, start anyways as that is the first step.
” I forgive but I do not forget” should not be our mission statement. God forgives us constantly and he wipes the slate clean, so let us learn to forgive others and ourselves too.
PRAYER
Lord help me to forgive those that have really hurt me, take the pain away, teach me to also forget their wrong doings and let it go. Amen
