I first heard a teaching on this and decided to study it. In doing that, I got better understanding. The teaching was by Brian Houston of Hillsong Church. The topic was Content –not indifferent. He spoke on how as Christians we should not be indifferent and to every church in the book of revelations, there was a challenge. So, this verse was directed to the church in Laodicea. They were neither cold nor hot; they were lukewarm (v. 15 & 16). And Jesus desired that they were either one of them. They were more content with their wealth than in God. They were just too comfortable. They didn’t just pursue God and his fullness. They were lax.

However, Jesus is knocking on the door. All you need to do is open up to him. Isn’t it just wonderful how Jesus makes it easy for us? We do not need to lift up a finger to work for His salvation or blessing. All we just need to do is believe which is just the same as opening up to him. Once the desire is there, we begin to grow in knowledge of him. That is, by reading our bibles more frequently. Now let me make this clear to you, you do not need to make a daily commitment to read your bible in order to know that you are walking with him. As a matter of fact, you have been justified by faith towards God. All you need do is let him work through you. The bible explains this in Philippians 2:12-13, “So then, dear friends, as you always obeyed me when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey me now while I am away from you. Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation, because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose.” I believe totally that it is not my strength that saves and keeps me; I am solely dependent of Jesus’ strength and grace.

Lord, I worship you because you care for me so much that you want to have an intimate relationship with me. I am forever grateful for your love and the price you paid thousands of years ago on the cross.
