Why It’s Important for Christians to Work Hard Too
1 Corinthians 15:10 – But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.
After you believe in Jesus, I guess the next question is what next? Well there’s a lot that comes next, it’s almost like an adventure. It is true that we rest in Christ’s love, in fact once we believe, we tend to experience this surge of love flow through our spirits. However resting in Christ’s love is not an excuse to become lazy in handling your affairs as well as Gods work in ministry. Paul, in the key verse, makes us understand that we should work hard to know who Christ is. There is a need to know and understand Christ in his risen state and exactly what we have as a result of the gospel.
The need to grow spiritually
There is a need to pray and walk in the things of the spirit; it is good that we desire to walk in the gifts of the spirit. These are stated explicitly in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14. This is just one of the ways to know and understand Christ as he is — in heaven. Hallelujah!
1 Corinthians 15:33 says that we should avoid evil company. That is, anything that will make you doubt the gospel, who Christ is. It’ll also be good practice to mind the things you watch and read. There are some things or some people that teach you things contrary to the gospel, we are to avoid them. We may not be as strong as we claim we are, we can fall prey to heresy, so, be mindful!
There is also a call to evangelize. Only the gospel can save. The bible tells us that it is the power of God unto Salvation. So, there is a need to spread this good news. Jesus said this explicitly in the great commission.
From this, you can see that we Christians are not to be lazy. We shouldn’t be. There is a need to work hard. The gospel message is top priority and second to none. Hallelujah!!!
Father I walk in the understanding of your finished work on the cross.
