What’s a Christians Purpose on the Earth?
“And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation” 2 Corinthians 5:18(KJV)
The purpose of a believer here on earth is to know Christ and to make Him known. We see this in 2 Corinthians 5:15; ‘And that He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them and rose again.’
Today’s text says that Christ has reconciled us unto Himself and has given us the responsibility to get others reconciled unto him. Therefore, we are not just saved for ourselves alone but we are saved to get others saved as well.
2 Corinthians 5:19 tells us that God has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. The message of the gospel is given unto us to tell the word. It is through us that others are saved.
As believers, we’re all ministers and ‘evangelists’. Preaching the gospel is not a special task assigned to a particular group. Not only is preaching the gospel important, helping others grow is just as important. Christ Himself in Matthew 28:19&20 instructed the disciples to “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything He had commanded them…” This same instruction holds for us as believers. We must carry out and remain committed to the spread of the gospel of Christ.
Paul said in Philippians 1:21;
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain”
This means that the purpose of his being alive was to preach the gospel of Christ. In verse 24 and 25 of the same chapter, he said he was convinced it was necessary for him to remain alive with the saints for their progress and joy in the faith. Despite the persecution and suffering, Paul preferred to remain just for the salvation and growth of others.
As we remain committed to this ministry, we must stay conscious of the fact that Christ is with us through it all for He says in Matthew 28:20; “…and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Lord Jesus, thank you for teaching me to find purpose in you, and for the strength to walk in and fulfil this purpose
