How To Know You are Growing in the Faith
Hebrews 5 : 14 – Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
When asked to evaluate how well I think a believer has grown, the first thing I do isn’t to check out how much they pray, or how much of bible scripture they can quote, but their ability to deduce truth from what is false, and right from what is wrong is a true measure of growth.
Scripture tells us about how we grow…let’s see what the word says.
2 Peter 1 : 2 – May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
You grow as you learn more…accurate knowledge of the word is very critical to growth. Only through accurate knowledge would you be able to discern true and false information, and that’s how I know a believer who is growing.
A believer who is growing also sees the need to do right, it’s a mark of growth…the ability to discern what is right and what is wrong and live according to what is right. Glory to God we are saved and nothing is plucking us out of God’s hands, and being saved we have a renewed nature that we shouldn’t ignore but express by deciding to live right….it’s a mark of growth. Let’s see what the word says.
2 Peter 1:2-3
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
Verse 3 expresses how as we grow we get to realise that all we need to live a godly life has been given to us, therefore we can and should live right.
Grow in your knowledge of Jesus…and decide to express your new nature.
Thank you Lord for growth…teach me to grow more in the knowledge of the word and to effectively live well.
