In Christ You Have Renewed Desires

Key Scripture

[Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the spirit desires. Romans 8:5] (NIV)

Digest

Desiring the things of God is something that comes naturally to the believer. This is because we have God Himself living inside of us. We find that the desires of the nature which was at work within us before it was replaced with the very nature of God just die away naturally. Those things that were so important to us, that we thought we could not do without or give up for anything suddenly do not seem so indispensible anymore.

God has put the ‘regulator’ within us and He causes us to live in line with the Spirit, desiring to do His will. (Ezekiel 36:26&27)

Galatians 5:24 says;’’ Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires’’. Not only was the nature of sin taken away, the desire to sin was taken away as well. The bible tells us that because we are dead to sin, we are also dead to its desires.

We do not live to satisfy the cravings of the flesh, rather we live for the will of God. We see this in 1st Peter 4:2-4:

” As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God… For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do-living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry… They think it is strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you”

Paul instructs us in verse 25 of Galatians 5 to walk in the reality of our new nature. We are given to the things of God because this is now our nature, but we must consciously walk in line with the Spirit.

The great news is that God has empowered us with everything we need to live out this divine nature (2nd Peter 1:3&4). We have received the promise of the Holy Spirit; we now have the nature of God. Therefore, we are not controlled by desires of the flesh but by the Spirit of God. Glory!

#Pray

Thank you Lord for my new nature, thank you Lord because I am no longer subject to my flesh but live above the desires of the flesh. As I continually stay with the word, I continue to transform as my mind is renewed. Glory to God!!
