Unpacking The Love of God Revealed in Jesus – Part 2

Key Scripture

1 John 3 : 16 – We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Digest

Our key scripture reveals something about Gods love that we need to take note of. It says we know what real love is, and we see it in Jesus. Gods love is called real love. This invariably means there is fake love, or a love that tries to mimic the real love. We should be guided, and use Gods love as our yardstick in identifying love. It’s safe to say therefore that if a person hasn’t seen or experienced real love in Christ it’s impossible to express same love to people.

In 1 Corinthians 13, Apostle Paul tells us about Gods love…let’s have a look.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
[4]Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
[5]or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
[6]It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
[7]Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Do you see this, it’s simply amazing, this is the nature of God’s love. Everything you see in that scripture is just how Gods love exists for us. If you hear or see anything about God anywhere that doesn’t express these characteristics, you can immediately dismiss it as being God, and expose it for what it is; remember we spoke about fake love earlier.

We see love however expressed in Jesus on the cross of Calvary.

John 15 : 13 -There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

This right here is real love, and glory to God we have seen it. This scripture says there is no greater love. Grow in Christ’s love, learning and meditating on it daily. Such love renews our minds, and teaches us to love others even to the death. Glory to God.

#pray

Lord I pray that I grow in the knowledge of your love, and I learn to love others.
