How To Live By Faith

Key Scriptures

Hebrews 10:38-39
[38]And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.”
[39]But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

Hebrews 11:1 – Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

Digest

Our key scripture, that’s Hebrews 11:1, shows us the mind set, and hope we should carry daily as believers. It’s a point to note that Hebrews 11:1 is not trying to define faith, in fact an adequate definition of faith can be seen in a regular dictionary, not in scripture, however it shows us what we should put our hope and faith in.

The Bible was never written in chapters and verses, but those who interpreted the Bible from its original manuscript, saw it wise to include chapters and verses for reference purposes. But when we read scripture, we should remember that most of the text are letters to churches and individuals, and should be read as such. No part of a letter should be independently interpreted without including other parts which make it a complete message.

Heading back to our key scriptures, you can now notice that to understand completely Hebrews 11:1, we would need to look up some prior scriptures.

Hebrews 10:38-39
[38]And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.”
[39]But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved.

Verse 38 leaves a question, the righteous shall live by faith, faith in what exactly? Living by faith is not a call to reckless living, we have discussed this in a previous digest. The question is however answered in Hebrews 11:1, which we’ll see soon. Verse 39 tells us that we are faithful and would eventually be saved, saved there referring to reign eternally with Jesus after the death of our bodies. This is what we are hoping for, and glory to God we have it through Jesus. That is our hope, to receive the salvation from our earthly bodies.

Then Hebrews 11:1 now opens our eyes to the fact that this is a truth we should dwell on. It’s simply saying that, we live with the confidence that this hope we have is a reality, and some day, we will see it. This is the mindset we should carry. Be bold about the eternal life you have, you have it, it’s yours. Christ said it himself;

John 3:16 – “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Note what Jesus said…”but have eternal life”.

#pray

Thank you Jesus, for I know that I have eternal life, glory to God.
