What Finding Purpose Does To You

Key Scripture

2 Corinthians 4:8-14
[8]We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
[9]We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
[10]Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
[11]Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies.
[12]So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.
[13]But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.”
[14]We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you.

Wow, Apostle Paul was speaking about what he, some other apostles and most believers experienced while they preached the gospel. Reading the key scripture, you’ll see that their lives were basically on the line for this cause, and most of them had even died, yet Paul said they were not crushed, neither were they driven to despair (driven to give up hope).

One question that should be on your mind is, why?, I mean what kept them having this drive, not relenting and still pushing ahead. Verse 12 even explained that if anything, they didn’t go through all they did for themselves, but that others will get to hear the message of the gospel.

So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.

You can immediately see that love here is a major factor which drove them to keep on preaching despite all they passed through, and this love made meaning to them because they saw it’s value, and worth, so much so that for it they were ready to lay down their lives. Also you get to see that the apostles had found purpose in Christ, which was a direct instruction given to preach the gospel to every creature. In this purpose, they were willing to give and sacrifice all including their lives. Apostle Paul spoke about what he lived for.

Galatians 2:20 – My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

What Paul wrote above, applies to us all too, that our purpose today is dependent on Jesus and His desires, and His desires are outlined in the instruction He gave the disciples before He ascended, and it’s to tell people about what He did on the cross. Truth be told, once you find purpose in anything, nothing will be too large to sacrifice for that thing.

In Christ however, our purpose is clearly outlined, and it’s to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cast out devils etc. Doing this, you may make mistakes, or feel discouraged when taunted, but don’t be in despair, push harder and you’ll only get better. Don’t forget, Apostle Paul was in the face of death, but he still kept on pushing because he knew it wasn’t for an empty cause, but that it had value…assured value.

We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you.

We should beat our chests and confidently read the scripture above. It’s a certain eventuality, and it’s one thing that can go a long way to spurring us to keep on preaching the gospel message. That’s why we are loud about it, we have eternal life and the world needs to hear it.

Thank you Lord Jesus for your purpose that lives in me. Teach me to always fulfil it and not give up.
