The Best Way To Use Your Words

Key Scripture

Ephesians 4:29 – Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

So we’ll talk on this a little, it’s really important we see the need to use our words to encourage each other. We cannot over emphasize this fact, that a believer has a new nature, and this new nature would enable you live a new kind of life, a life full of love for others and God.

On that note, we need to see that even our manner of speech changes…well maybe not the manner, but the purpose of our speech, and once the purpose of anything changes, its manner of execution changes as well. Our key scripture tells us the new purpose we should have for our speech.

Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them

Our words are supposed to be an encouragement to people, our words are also supposed to be helpful, it’s really important that we learn to speak this way, why? because now we can, we have brand new natures, glory to God. Encourage people with your words, don’t pull them down, or make them feel negative or discouraged, but encourage, even in rebuke. Don’t curse people, it’s not a godly way to express yourself, rather than curse people, pray for them, that’s God’s way.

Like I said earlier, we can do this now because we have brand new natures.

Ephesians 4:22-23
[22]throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.
[23]Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

Since we have new natures, you can now put off the old one, notice it says you put it away, meaning it’s a choice to live in your new nature. So, how do you put it away? Verse 23 tells us, by renewing our minds. Out of the abundance in our hearts (minds), our mouth speaks. As we renew our minds, and focus it on the things of our Spirit, our renewed nature, our righteousness, and forgiveness in Christ, even our words, our speech will change. All these work together to build us up as well as the church.

Lord, teach me to speak right words in love to people, amen.
