What’s The Big Fuss About Angels?

Key Scripture

Hebrews 13:1-2
[1]Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.
[2]Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

The first verse begins with an amazing instruction that we are all supposed to heed to. A digest concerning that scripture has already been written, simply tap here if you haven’t read it yet. Love is our new nature, therefore as Christians, we are all creatures now made to love Just like God does. This would involve still showing your love despite peoples ills and faults.

However, many people limit their show of love to just the believers, that is their Christian brothers and sisters. Strangers too should not be left out, the writer of Hebrews encourages and instructs us to show hospitality and love by welcoming them into your home, office space, or any other social meeting. Don’t be mean to them, but let then see God’s love be expressed through you.

After reading the second verse in the key scripture I realised that a lot of people are doing good to strangers simply because they want to see an angel. In that scripture, angels were not meant to be a goal, or even a motivation, in fact earlier in Hebrews, we see the purpose of angels.

Hebrews 1:14 – Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.

Angels are basically servants for our sake, angels were not the main attraction in that verse, but we were being pointed to Abraham’s action. That Abraham who was called a man of faith was very hospitable, so much so that even angels were entertained by him. If we are also people of faith, we should be able to sacrifice for strangers, just like Abraham did.

Show God’s love all around, let people see God’s love through you, believers and unbelievers alike, that’s the true nature of God’s love.

Thank you Jesus for the gift of your love, teach me to express love, even in my hospitality to strangers, amen.
