How To Walk in the Spirit

Key Scripture

Galatians 5:16,18,25
[16]So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
[18]But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
[25]Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

“Walking in the Spirit”, I’ve heard people use this term on so many occasions. You’ll hear people make statements like, “please don’t disturb me, I’m in the Spirit”, in order words, at that moment, they are walking in the Spirit. Well what does this mean? and how does it feel? Our key scripture shows us the benefit of being in the Spirit, it says in verse 16 that being in the Spirit stops us from fulfilling our fleshy desires. This goes beyond sinful acts now, but even regarding our decisions, our selections would not be based what our flesh desires, but on God’s will.

For believers today, we are born again and the Holy Spirit is placed in our Spirits, He is now our guide, no longer the law of Moses, which in fact appealed to our sinful nature anyways. Verse 25 throws some more light into this matter, it clearly says that “we are living by the Spirit”, therefore believers need to understand that walking in the Spirit is the believers default mode, all that’s left is to constantly be conscious of that fact, of the fact that you are walking in the Spirit.

John 1:13 – They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God

We see here that we are reborn of God, God is Spirit, so we are born of God’s Spirit. God lives in us, this means as we move, as we “walk”, we carry God in us. We are not trying to walk in the Spirit, because in a sense the Spirit walks with us already.

Romans 8:14-16
[14]For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
[15]So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
[16]For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children

Hey guys, the criteria to be regarded as a child of God is you being led by the Spirit. If you are Gods child by virtue of what Jesus has done then you are led by the Spirit, you walk in the Spirit. It’s what the word says about you. Verse 16 here puts the icing on top, it says God’s Spirit joins with our Spirit. Joins is a really powerful word it basically means that your Spirit is now one with Gods Spirit. You walk in the Spirit, you are a carrier of God, never forget that, be conscious of it, glory to God.

Lord teach me to always be conscious of you in me, I walk in you and you in me. Amen.
