Not Afraid to Die

Key Scripture

Revelation 1:18 – I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave

I’ve seen many believers who are so scared to die, once they hear of death, they literally begin to shiver. That happens usually because those believers don’t understand why Jesus had to be in the grave. When Christ died, He was making the ultimate substitution for us. On the cross, He became our sin so that we can now be called righteous.

2 Corinthians 5:21 – For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ

And when Christ had died, He was put in the grave to conquer death for us. Our key scripture makes it clear, that the key of death and the grave now belong to Jesus. It previously belonged to the devil, but now it’s with Jesus, and because we are victorious in Christ, we have conquered death too. We need to note that conquering death isn’t talking about your physical body dying, in fact your physical body will die, but your true self which is your Spirit is made alive, and is still alive even after your body dies.

Before Christ, this was not possible. Those who died were lost forever, and their Spirits subject to the devils rule. But Jesus when He died, went to were the devil was supposed to hold dead Spirits, and He took authority there so that we will never have to go there. This means that physical death for us is now a process we anticipate, because Jesus has secured true life for us…we never really die, we only move from life to life.

Hebrews 2:14 – Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death

The power the devil supposedly had was death. This made people scared, it made people afraid to experience death, because that left them subject to the devil, but glory to God, the devil no longer has the power of death, it’s now with our saviour, and He doesn’t subject our spirit to death but to unending life.

2 Corinthians 5:4 – While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life

In Christ you experience true life, so don’t be scared to lose your life on this earth, but rejoice that you have life in your spirit.

I have life in me, eternal life. I confess it because it’s true. Lord teach me to never fear death, but to always see true life in you
