The Power For the Church

Key Scripture

Ephesians 1:19-22
[19]I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power
[20]that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
[21]Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.
[22]God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.

This scripture makes me so joyful. It shows us the power that works for the church, what makes the church grow, and how the church gives life to the world. It’ll surprise you though, this is not talking about the church engaging in relief efforts, I mean I’ve got nothing against that, or the church providing aid to the poor, those are beautiful too, but it’s talking about the resurrection power of Christ, that is seen in the gospel message, and received when people believe the message.

Our key scripture explains that the same power that rose Christ from the dead is now at work for us. This power gave Christ authority over all power, or leader, or ruler. This wasn’t talking about human leaders, I mean, humans can elect their leaders, but this was talking about Spiritual rulers.

Ephesians 3:10 – God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places

Christ is now above these rulers and verse 22 of our key scripture says that it’s for the benefit of the church. How? Well reading further you’ll discover that Him being above them shows that we are above them too, it’s a supernatural occurrence, and it happens when we believe the gospel message.

Ephesians 2:6,8-9
[6]For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
[8]God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
[9]Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it

Christ overcame and the church is a living testimony of it, those who are a part of the church have life, and when others believe, they receive this life as well. That’s the benefit, and now this benefit is to be told the world over. Christ did all the work on the cross so that we are tagged winners, not as a result of our material possession, but because we have spiritual life.

Thank you Lord for your church, and your power at work for your church. Help me to always fix my eyes on your reservation power.
