What’s at the Center of God’s Ministry?
Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
Thank God for Jesus. There are days you just sit and meditate on what Jesus did on the cross, and you’ll remain in awe at how loving God is, and how rich we are in our Spirits. With Christ’s death, burial and resurrection came a lot of activity, the church began to grow, miracles happened, people got healed, etc. However, in all this what would God have be our focus?
Our key scripture highlights the singular instruction Christ gave before He ascended. He asked us to share the good news of salvation and disciple men to do same. That was the purpose first of, of Christ’s coming to the earth. When John the Baptist saw Jesus for the first time, he made it quite clear.
John 1:29 – The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
That was Christ’s purpose. It was never about the healing, or the deliverance, it was always about getting people saved, and full of the knowledge of truth. That’s why the only instruction Christ gave was to make disciples, then he said, signs will follow, the signs were never designed to be a major attraction, the gospel was and is the center piece.
One time, I heard someone say that salvation is the basic, and that there is more, truth is, supernaturally speaking there is more to experience, and you should desire to walk in these things, because they are all a function of your saved Spirit, however, salvation is not the basic, it’s the center, every other thing is not built on salvation (meaning salvation is to be forgotten as a believer grows), but built around it. Ultimately what is more important? the things of this world, or the things beyond this world…every experience you desire, or whatever gift you walk in is only going to end here in this life, but salvation, is what affords you the most important thing if all, and that’s a renewed Spirit that can enter heaven. Salvation is not basic, it is what is at the center of God’s heart and plan.
1 Timothy 2:3-4
This is good and pleases God our Savior,
who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth
Thank you Jesus for the gift of salvation, Lord I walk in wisdom to preach it and teach it, even as you desire, amen.
