Is God Tempting me?

Key Scripture

James 1:13-14
[13]And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.
[14]Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away

No one loves to be in tight corner. It can be frustrating, and permit me to say annoying. One tight corner that alot of believers find themselves in is temptation. Temptation to sin, etc. As much as we are saved eternally by God’s grace, we are supposed to live out our salvation, that is live out the good that our Spirit now produces as a result of salvation, this in itself can be filled with tempting events.

I’ve heard some people talk about how they believe God is tempting them, or testing them, probably because God wants to reward them. Well the truth from scripture is that God is not a tempter. Our key scripture makes that clear. God does not tempt, in fact if anything temptation comes from our own sinful desires. These desires are a resultant effect of man’s fallen state, which of course is the devil’s work. That’s why as believers, we are encouraged to live by the Spirit, that is focus our minds on the things of the Spirit, this would greatly reduce temptations that come from our own desires. If we can label anyone as a tempter, then it’ll be the devil, I mean we see him tempting Eve and Jesus.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure

Someone pointed out that this scripture apparently shows that God tempts, and controls the intensity of temptations, that is why He won’t let temptation be more than you can bear. Well let’s look at this closely, first of all for it to be regarded as a temptation then it has to be more than you can bear, if it isn’t, then it isn’t a temptation, because no one will ever fall for it. This scripture never called God a tempter, instead it says God has the solution to temptations. God’s solution to temptation are what would make them bearable for you. Whoever tempts you wants you to fall and would make them unbearable, however God wants you to overcome and be strong in temptation, hence, He brings solution, which would make the temptation bearable. God is not the tempter, however He’s the one who helps us in times of temptation, that’s how we should see God.

Thank you Lord for always being around to rescue me in times of temptation.
