Believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit  part 1

Key Scripture

Ephesians 1:13 – ” In whom  ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel  of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,…”

Several times I have heard people make comments on how the spirit of God can leave you, especially if you do something wrong. It’s surprising because the action contradicts the very essence or reason for which God sent His spirit (the Holy Spirit). In the book of Ezekiel 36:25-27, we see the prophesy given concerning the Holy Spirit’s coming and what His coming will do. We see how the spirit is the one who does all the work; in keeping God’s status, obeying His laws etc. It’s the spirit of God that empowers us to do all that. The Holy Spirit is our helper, and would not forsake us just when His help is needed. He strengthens us, gives us the ability to overcome temptations and trials, and when we fall, He helps us right on our feet, that is His job.

Philippians 2:12-13

[12]Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.

[13]For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

The King James Version (KJV) puts it as “work out your salvation”… The New Living Translation (NLT) puts it in a clearer way, we ought to work hard to show the results of our salvation (the in Christ realities, the fulfilled law), but it goes further in letting us know that it’s God in us(the Holy Spirit) that works in us and gives us the power to do that which we have been instructed to do.

If you carefully read through the scriptures, you will see how the ability to live right is powered by God for we can’t do it ourselves. All this is to show the responsibility the Holy Spirit has in our lives. It’s His responsibility to keep us going, it’s His responsibility to help us live up to His status and so He can’t abandon us because of a supposed wrong done by us. The spirit of God is a gift, a gift that we didn’t deserve, a gift that our actions could not obtain and hence can’t sustain.

Father thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit in whom through your son I now have. I understand that He dwells in me and will forever be with me. Thank you for your Love Lord, be thou exalted, amen!
