What is the Gospel Really Worth?

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 1:8-9
[8]So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.
[9]For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus

Digest

The gospel is basically the pillar of the Christian faith. Without the gospel, there is no Christianity. That shows the power in that message, and how valuable it is to everyone who is a believer, and to everyone in the world because it’s by this message that people get saved, and receive an assurance of eternity.

Apostle Paul gave us a glimpse of how valuable the gospel was to him, and we should also have the same mindset that he had regarding the gospel. In our key scripture, Apostle Paul cited that he was in chains (prison) for the gospels sake, yet he wasn’t ashamed or bothered about it.

2 Timothy 1:12 – That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return

Why you may wonder…

2 Timothy 2:10 – So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen

It’s amazing how when I read this, what I see is Apostle Paul placing high value on the gospel and its ability to save that chains don’t even seem like a problem. He goes further to tell Timothy in verse 9 of our key scripture that God has saved us and called us to a holy life. Holy there meaning separated, a holy life is a resultant effect of the gospel and not the other way round, however in living a Holy life, we also express the fruit of our salvation, that is good deeds, and in expressing good deeds you may be persecuted, or for simply preaching the gospel, you may be persecuted, but you need to place the gospel on a pedestal higher than that persecution. Persecution, can only affect the body, but what salvation does is of eternal value.

So don’t feel shame if you are put on the spot for preaching Jesus, or if you are persecuted for expressing the fruit of your salvation, whatever shame or pain only ends here, and is of no value. The gospel is of immense value, our lives could never afford it, that’s why it required a life much higher than ours, and that life paid for our salvation a fee that seems like an over payment. Place the gospel as supreme in your heart, and learn to always be confident even when there’s persecution.

#pray

Thank you Jesus for the power in your gospel, for your payment for my sin. I see the value in your gospel, and I uphold it in my heart.
