What God Can and Cannot do
1 John 4:8 – But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love
Sometimes, we get caught in a web trying to figure out God’s nature. Well the truth is God is God, omniscient and omnipotent, so you can’t really box Him, He can do whatever He pleases. However, you see some profound statements about God in scripture…let’s see a couple of them.
Isaiah 45:23 – I have sworn by my own name; I have spoken the truth, and I will never go back on my word: Every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to me.” [NLT]
Psalm 138:2 – I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. [KJV]
The scriptures above show something really important, and it’s that if anything at all would limit God, then it would be His word. That’s why in order to see the things God can or will not do, it’s best to check the word.
Our key scripture reveals something about God, and it’s that He is love, this also means that the things God would do would also be within the constraints of this nature, the nature of love. Love itself comes with its own characteristics, let’s see what the word says about some of them.
1 Corinthians 13:4 – Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
This is what love is, and permit me to say, this is who God is. This is just an example anyway, but you should always learn to use the word as your basis to see who God truly is, not experience or what people say. So what can God do, well it’s in the word, and what will God not do…that’s in the word as well. God bless you.
Lord, I am diligent by your strength in studying the word, and I see you through the lens of scriptures amen.
