What We Preach Versus What We are Supposed to Preach

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 1:13-14
[13]Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus.
[14]Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you

There are so many Christian teachings out there, I mean so many, well, it’s not a bad thing, however, we need to be sure that if we are listening to a Christian teaching, it should be wholesome teaching, and if we are privileged to be teaching anything, it should also be wholesome teaching.

What is wholesome teaching? Well Apostle Paul explains it in our key scripture, he says a pattern of wholesome teaching is one shaped by faith and love that we have in Jesus. Wholesome teaching points you toward one person, and that is Christ. Now I’m not speaking about teachings that bring a cheap imitation of a teaching of Christ, were all sorts are said during the teaching that have nothing to do with Christ, and then the concluding parts is “Jesus is Lord”, but I’m speaking of teaching were Jesus is the actual subject. When speaking about Jesus what exactly are we supposed to speak about Him. Well Apostle Paul made it clear, its teaching based on the faith and love we have in Jesus. We have faith in Jesus for our salvation and as a result we are full of His love. Wholesome teachings would remind you of these, or at best stir up your knowledge of these things.

We should learn to pay attention to wholesome teaching, and to desire such teaching. To those who teach, make a conscious effort to teach wholesome truths, the word is full of them. Search them out, and teach them, you’ll be doing exactly what the scriptures requires spiritual teachers do, and the benefit in terms of Spiritual growth is always huge.

2 Timothy 1:11 – And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News

2 Timothy 2:8 – Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach

Thank you Lord for wholesome teaching, my ears and heart are opened to them, amen.
