Be Fruitful in Every Good Work

Key Scriptures

Acts 26:20 – “but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.”

Romans 2:24 – For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.

Colossians 1:10 – that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Paul in the book of Ephesians, tells us plainly that we have been saved by grace and not by works. This is the absolute truth and any other thing outside this is a blatant lie. However, many have taken this verse and misinterpreted it to suit their own evil desires and intentions. In our second key scripture, Paul was speaking to the Jews, he had rebuked them for preaching one thing and doing the opposite. These Jews were the so-called “God’s own people”. They saw themselves as the light in the darkness but in actual practice what was coming out of them was darker than darkness, because of this the Gentiles had blasphemed the name of God. Jesus never condemned anybody but He always told them to go and sin no more (e.g the woman caught in adultery).

Brethren, imagine if Paul after repenting still continued to persecute Christians or if the Pastor in your local church was making a constant practice of sin, what would you make of him? If the grace of God we preach cannot save us from sin, how then would an unbeliever believe our reports. Note that I have used the phrase “make a practice of sin” because I know there’re times in our day to day lives, we make mistakes, but God is able to make us stand. If we fall, we get back up, we don’t make a practice of sin.

Nicky Cruz was a former gang member, he one day received Jesus and walked away from the gang. Today he has reached out to thousands of people about the message of the gospel. If after believing, he was still extorting, killing, raping but “still loves the Lord”, would other gang members who heard him preach believe his report?

Dearly beloved, we ought to bear fruits in every good work. We have the Holy Spirit in us and we bear fruits of the spirit.

Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Dear Lord, I am the light of the world, my light is shining so much that men will see it and glorify the Father, I am not devoid of good works because you have given me the power to walk in good works, Amen.
