What Every Christian Needs To Know

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 2:14 – Remind everyone about these things, and command them in God’s presence to stop fighting over words. Such arguments are useless, and they can ruin those who hear them

Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy gave him some specific instruction, which we can also imbibe today as believers, as these instructions are for believers in general, especially ministers just like Timothy was, a pastor.

You’ll notice some of the encouraging words and instructions spoken to Timothy were also directed toward to church, or the body of Christ as a whole, just like our key scripture shows. Apostle Paul asked Timothy to remind “everyone” about these things. What are these things? Let’s take a look at the previous verses of scripture.

2 Timothy 2:3-4,10
[3]Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
[4]Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
[10]So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

These are a select verses, but you can already see the picture here, we need to be reminded that being a believer first off is not a selfish life, however it is selfless, with the aim that many others become believers. Apostle Paul asked Timothy to remind the church about these things, therefore, we should also remind ourselves about them too. Being a believer is a separate life now, you belong to a new family, and a new kingdom.

Colossians 1:13 – For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son

You are a soldier in Christ, therefore, don’t entangle yourself in civilian affairs, our key scripture speaks more on this, it talks about avoiding arguments and fighting over words. Those are distractions, and like our key scripture explains, can be very destructive, in the sense that arguments always take you away from the bigger picture, or from the task needed to be accomplished. Instead we should focus more on preaching the gospel and getting people saved, no matter the circumstances, the hindrances or the limitations set ahead of us, that’s the life we’ve been called into, we are soldiers of Christ, never forget that.

Thank you Lord Jesus for your life in me and for making me a part of your kingdom. Teach me to always remember who I am in you, and to stay by your word, amen.
