How To Handle Enemies

Key Scripture

Matthew 5:43-45
[43]“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy.
[44]But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!
[45]In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike

Enemies…we’ve all got them, we may not know them, but they’ll always be there throughout our lives. One huge question many believers have is how to deal with enemies, knowing that everyone would have them, majority of which you would not know.

Well, let’s see what the word says about it. Jesus was speaking in our key scripture, and He gave instructions on how we are to treat our enemies, He asked us to love them, and pray for them. It’s funny how this scripture has always been in plain sight, but many believers seem to be doing the opposite, and instead of showing love to enemies, give them negativity and wish them the worst.

In fact, Jesus goes as far as asking us to pray for them. Well I’ve heard people say that Jesus never said what kind of prayers we should pray, therefore we could pray the negative for them. Well that would directly negate the statement Jesus made earlier, when He said “love your enemies”. When you love someone, you never wish or pray evil on them, so you can be rest assured that Jesus didn’t have negative prayers in mind when He made that statement. Jesus rounded off by saying that in doing these, we’ll be acting as true children of our Father in heaven.

[45]In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.

With this I could not agree more. Remember we were once enemies of God because of what Adam did.

Romans 5:10 – For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son

You see we were God’s enemies, but His response to us was not to wish us evil, but to show us love, and He showed us love through His son Jesus. Even God responds to His enemies with love, teaching us to do same.

1 John 3:16 – We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters

Walk in love just like Jesus asked us to. Pray for your enemies, and wish them well, that’s God’s heart, God bless you.

Thank you Lord because I know that I am protected in you. Teach me to always be good to all men, including those who choose to be enemies, I love just as you love, amen.
