I Received a Prophesy, What Next?
1 Timothy 1:18-19
Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles.
Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
One amazing thing we can receive from God as believers, which we should be grateful for and take full advantage off is direction. When you receive direction from God, you can be rest assured that you won’t be making any mistakes, and you are making the right decisions. Sometimes when direction comes from God to believers, it comes in the form of a prophesy, foretelling events to happen.
Some people have turned prophesy into an entertainment industry on its own and simply wait to receive prophesies just because they believe it’s fun, or exciting. However, in doing this, we tend to miss the point, the bigger picture. Prophesies are not supposed to end in the ear drums or the hearts of the recipient, however, they are supposed to lead to certain action being taken.
Prophesy and prophesying is highly encouraged in scripture…see what Apostle Paul tells the Corinthian church:
1 Corinthians 14:29-31
Let two or three people prophesy, and let the others evaluate what is said.
But if someone is prophesying and another person receives a revelation from the Lord, the one who is speaking must stop.
In this way, all who prophesy will have a turn to speak, one after the other, so that everyone will learn and be encouraged
In verse 29, he says that two or three people should prophesy, and in verse 31, he explains that allowance should be made for all who want to prophesy to prophesy, so it is a welcome experience in a meeting or gathering of believers. However, when prophesies comes we are to take them seriously and take action on them. In verse 18 of our key scripture, Apostle Paul says something very profound to Timothy, he says he is giving him instructions based on the prophesy Timothy had received. The prophesy led to instructions that would in turn cause Timothy to take some actions. Prophesy should lead to actions, and then you would see the prophesy being fulfilled in the end.
Thank you Lord for the gift of prophesy, I prophesy regularly by your Spirit in me, and when I receive prophesy, I am strengthened to always take actions on them, amen.
