Will God Heal Me?

Key Scripture

Mark 5:25-29
[25]A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding.
[26]She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse.
[27]She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe.
[28]For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”
[29]Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition

This scripture gets me every time. It shows me a truth about God that many people don’t seem to know, it reveals God’s grace, and Gods willingness to heal us. The woman with the constant bleeding was regarded as unclean. In fact as at that time, any woman who was on her monthly cycle was regarded as unclean under the law, and I believe this would have been strictly enforced.

Leviticus 15:19-20,25-26
[19]“Whenever a woman has her menstrual period, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her during that time will be unclean until evening.
[20]Anything on which the woman lies or sits during the time of her period will be unclean.
[25]“If a woman has a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge continues.
[26]Any bed she lies on and any object she sits on during that time will be unclean, just as during her normal menstrual period

These were a couple of the laws that they followed, and it was believed that these laws properly expressed God’s heart. So you could see that the woman in our key scripture would have been termed unclean as a result of her condition, and many people, especially Jew’s would have had no cause to have a relationship with her so as not to become unclean as well. The woman would have been seen as a sinner, who could even infect you with her sin, it must have been really sad for this woman, and like I said earlier, it’ll have seemed that God had His stamp of approval on it. However, this woman’s encounter with Jesus revealed something, it revealed God’s heart toward man, and the reality of His grace.

So we have Jesus now, who is God, and purportedly the originator of this law, not even aware that an unclean woman is coming near Him, the woman touches Him in faith, and the bleeding seizes, without a prayer, simply because the woman had faith in the fact that Jesus can and Jesus will heal her. This shows that it’s in God’s heart naturally to see His creation healed, it flows naturally from God to His people. Why do I say this? see a clear picture of God, it’s best to look at Jesus:

John 1:18 – No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us

In Jesus we see the heart of the Father revealed. God is not hiding healing from you, neither is He expecting you to be clean before He can heal you, but His heart toward you is that you be healed, and He’s ready at all times to heal you. Notice Jesus never made mention of the woman’s sin, or she being unclean, but He simply commended her faith. Sin would not stop God From healing you. If it could, it’ll have stopped the woman from receiving healing, God wants you to believe that He can and will heal you, it’s His default heart setting toward you.

Thank you Lord for your healing. I am healed, I know you will heal me whenever I fall ill, and just like you I am a healer too, and I heal the sick.
