What Does The Devil Want From Me?

Key Scripture

Ephesians 6:12 – For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places

Whenever a believer hears the word enemy, or the father of lies, one of the first persons who come to mind is the devil. We need to always note this about him though: that he is defeated, and all right he would have had to your life, he lost when you believed Jesus.

Colossians 2:14-15
[14]He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
[15]In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross

The devil is our defeated enemy, and we should always see him as such. If the devil is our enemy, it means one thing, that he wants something negative to happen to us. You know enemies are relative. If someone’s your enemy at work for instance, the person won’t want you to do a great job at work. What defeated the devil was Christ’s work on the cross, so the devil is our enemy in that he will do all he can to ensure that people won’t be able to know and benefit from his defeat, and he’s also our enemy in that he doesn’t want us to grow in our knowledge of his defeat, so we can exercise it.

1 Corinthians 16:9 – There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me

2 Corinthians 10:5 – We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ

That’s what the devils desire is, to stop people from either knowing or growing in Christ. Understand that the devil is not after your house or car, I’ve heard believers pray for hours because they think the devil wants to steal their cars, or jobs, or money. Truth is the devil is a spirit and doesn’t need those things. It’s humans who need them. The Bible speaks about how men are corrupt and envious. Those kind of men would want to steal from you, or posses what’s yours, you can pray about that yes, but it shouldn’t make you label anyone as the devils advocate, even as you pray for your property not to be harmed, you love people just as Jesus would, it’s not foolishness it’s God’s wisdom.

You’ll discover that you face real opposition when you are actually making attempts to share the gospel or grow. That’s when the government would decide to ban bibles or churches, or the school would decide to stop harmless prayers, or a car sales man would decide not to sell a car to you because you need it for missions work. It’s funny right, but it’s true, you’ll know those are not natural. The devils not after your car or house, but after the spread of the gospel, and if your car or house would be a tool to ensuring the gospels spread, he’ll do all he can to stop them from existing.

In all this, we have faith and pray, we pray and keep on praying, and exert our authority over the devil.

Thank you Lord, for I’m not under the devils grip, I am free, and I have authority. I will go against Satan’s will, and I’ll grow, and preach the gospel, in Christ’s strength, amen
