What Wisdom is and What Wisdom is not

Key Scripture

James 3:13 – If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom

It’s important that as we continue in this series on wisdom, we actually understand what Gods kind of wisdom is. There is a wisdom that is off this world, and there is a wisdom that is of God. They are both wisdom non the less, but one of them is channelled toward the negative, while the other toward the positive. Our key scripture already highlights how you know a believer who is walking in God’s wisdom, the believer would focus on living honorably, with good conduct. Humility would also radiate from a wise believer, a believer who is proud is surely not walking in wisdom.

James 3:15,17
[15]For jealousy and selfishness are not God’s kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic.
[17]But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere

Apostle James just does further justice to this. Gods wisdom is not jealous or selfish. It’s funny how I’ve seen some believers act so selfish, not willing to share what they have, or sacrifice, and then their excuse is, “I’m just trying to be wise”, well I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s not wisdom, it’s just that person being unspiritual. God’s wisdom is not conventional yes, but love, peace, and patience ooze from it.

Wisdom from above is pure, it loves peace, and it’s gentle at all times. Yes, the scripture said all times, so a wise believer can always be gentle, gentle here doesn’t mean being quiet, but it means being ready and willing to let others have their way to avoid conflict, and this will most times tell on the persons demeanor. Gods wisdom is not cunning, or being deceitful, but it’s always sincere. Remember God’s wisdom is not a tool to give you an advantage, though it can, but it’s a tool to express God’s nature to those around you.

Lord Jesus teach me to walk in wisdom, to show your love to people, and to live a life full of peace.
