Being a Blessing to the Brethren
1 Corinthians 14:3 – But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.
Apostle Paul instructs in verse 1 of this chapter that as believers we should desire especially that we should prophesy. The 3rd verse of this same Chapter explains what prophecy does. The purpose of a prophecy is to edify the brethren; exhort the brethren; and comfort the brethren.
Prophesy is a gift of the spirit. This can be seen in 1 Corinthians 12:10. So, as a believer, prophesying to one another is very possible because it’s in you. On this note, if one (a believer) seeks to prophesy, his main reason for doing so is to edify, exhort or comfort the brethren and not to show off. Sometimes, the temptation is there to glory in your accurate prophecy, discard such thoughts immediately they come.
With this in mind, I encourage you today to desire to comfort, edify and exhort the brethren by giving them a prophecy. This of course is birthed out of love for the brethren. The best gift anyone can give you is to give you some words of prophecy. This gift transcends time. I dare you to uplift a brethren today: meet someone, or place a call and speak some words of prophesy to them. Are you looking for God’s will. This is God’s will. Edify the brethren.
Father remind me to always edify my family in Christ.
