I shall not die but live
Psalms 118:17 – I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the lord has done.
There’s a really popular statement I remember being used in a song, it’s “everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die”, that’s funny, but it’s true to a certain degree. The mass majority of believers love the fact that they are heaven bound, and they have an assurance of it from the word, however, they don’t want to go there just yet, but still want to live for a really really long time. That’s a good thing, I want to live for really long years on the earth too, but the question to tackle is, what would I be living on the earth for?
I hear believers pray tirelessly, for lengthy periods, that they live and not die, yet they fail to focus on that bigger question which is, why live? Especially now that you know that heaven is your home and you’ll get there because of your faith in Jesus. Our key scripture gives us some perspective to this. The Psalmist says:
“I shall not die, but live to declare God’s goodness”
That should be the center of our living, declaring the goodness of God. For years we have stopped reading at “I shall not die but live”, but now it’s time we see what the Psalmist says he is living for…to declare the goodness of God. So what is this goodness of God? Well we know that the ultimate show of God’s goodness to man is seen in one person, and that’s Jesus. See what the word says:
John 3:16 – “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life”
We see God’s goodness clearly in Jesus…that through Him, we can now have eternal life.
Romans 5:8 – But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners
The word calls it “great love”. Gods goodness is ultimately seen in His love revealed in the death and resurrection of Jesus, it is through this we now have eternal life, and it is because of this we can look forward to living on the earth. So do you want to declare God’s goodness? well tell someone about Jesus. Live for it, let passion for it burn in your heart. Live everyday declaring the goodness of God.
Thank you Lord for your goodness toward me. Help me to always declare it, and to live for it everyday, amen.
