Digest

The devil is one interesting character in the bible, there’s so much to know about him, but the most important information about the devil that every believer must know is that he is our enemy, he has been defeated by Jesus, and today he still tries to fight God’s plans. The devil is terrible, merciless and ruthless…therefore we should ensure that as believers, we don’t give the devil a chance to operate in our lives.

Our key scripture explains that the devil has schemes and strategies. This hasn’t stopped, even today the devil has schemes, and devices to ensure that his evil agenda is carried out, mostly to the end that Gods will is thwarted. In our key scripture, Apostle Paul says that “we are familiar with his evil schemes”, meaning that as a believer, you should not be ignorant of the devils evil schemes, else he may take advantage of your ignorance and operate in your life. One way the devil can express his evil schemes is by oppressing people:

Acts of the Apostles 10:38 – And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him

It may be through illness, or just an attempt make conditions unbearable for people to carry out activities. Whatever it may be, we should not be ignorant of it, and we should be able to fight against him. Thank God for the authority we now have in Christ. In scripture however, we are given strategy to help us stand against the devils whiles:

Ephesians 6:11 – Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil

Apostle Paul calls it the armour of God. We are supposed to put on this armour as tools to stand against the devil. So what is the armour?

Ephesians 6:13-18
[13]Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
[14]Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness.
[15]For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
[16]In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
[17]Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
[18]Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere

The armour is not a literal armour with actual swords and shields, but it refers to knowledge, knowing and understanding what Christ has done. From the belt of truth, to the sword of the Spirit, it’s all specific knowledge about Christ that believer’s must know, not just know, but constantly be reminded off. In verse 18 above, Apostle Paul mentions something very critical there, he says pray in the Spirit at all times. This is also being spoken about within the same context of standing against the devil. Praying in the Spirit is very important because since you are praying from the Holy Spirit, you would be praying exactly what God would have you pray, and you would be able to supernaturally use that to keep the devil out of your affairs. Always be alert, and never be ignorant of the devils devices.

#pray

Thank you Lord for helping me see your strength available for me. Teach me to always stand against the devil.
