Love is a beautiful thing, everyone wants to be loved, to experience love, and to be able to give love as well. For a Christian it’s a pretty simple process, mainly because God has already placed His love in our heart:

Romans 5:5 – And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love

This means that by nature you are already designed to love the moment you are in Christ. God places His Spirit within you, and this fills your heart with His kind of love. However you need to take note of something, it says here that your “heart” is filled with love. The word heart there is the Greek word “Kardia”, which is figuratively used to represent feelings, or thoughts. This means that God’s love comes from His Spirit, but finds expression through our feelings, which are a collection of prominent thoughts in our minds per time.

This love is supernatural, but though we have it, we may never get to walk in it. It’s love beyond emotions, like we said earlier, our mind is greatly involved in this. This love deals mainly with choices, and it gives you leverage to make some of the most delicate choices so long as they correctly express God’s nature, whether it’s beneficial to you or not. So if our minds are not actively understanding this love, then we may never express it in our actions.

Don’t eat yourself up though, it’s the kind of love that we grow in, so don’t feel upset if you aren’t perfect yet at expressing God’s kind of love, you are still growing, so long as you keep learning of course. One way you can grow in this love is to pray about it. In our key scripture, you can see Apostle Paul praying for the Thessalonian church to grow in love, and I believe the point we should all aim for is when the love begins to overflow:

Philippians 1:9 – I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding

You should keep growing in love, and strive to reach a point were this love overflows, it’s all a part of God’s plan for us.

#pray

Thank you Jesus for your love, I pray that I grow in this love, and I overflow daily, amen.
