How to Love – Part 2
1 John 3:16-17
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
Love is extremely powerful, so powerful it was used in scripture to describe God’s very nature (1 John 4:8). It was also given as Gods drive to liberate man, that act alone shows us how deep His love flows and to what extent He can go in display of this love.
Guess what? That same love that describes God, that same love that drives God to keep doing amazing things to see His children well, lives inside every believer, it lives inside you and me. Romans 5:5 speaks about it:
Romans 5:5 – And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love
Gods Holy Spirit fills our heart with his love. This means that we have God’s love flowing inside of us, just like God. However, this love is spiritual, and as with every Spiritual thing, for it to find physical expression, we need to practise it, and stir it up. Stirring it up means allowing it to flow from your Spirit to your body. How we stir up the things in our Spirit is through prayer. That’s why you’ll see Apostle Paul say that he keeps praying for things that we have received in our Spirits to find more expression.
Philippians 1:9 – I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding
So one way to stir up things that we have in our Spirits is to pray. Praying to walk in love would help you walk in love better, because it stirs up the love that’s already inside you.
While you stir up the love, you should also take steps to show it. It’s not love until you demonstrate it. In our key scripture, we see that love is only regarded as love when we put it to action in our relationship with people, that’s how to love. You pray it, and then you walk it.
Thank you Jesus for your love in my Spirit, teach me to always show your love, amen.
