Philippians 1:27 – Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
In Philippians 3:20, Apostle Paul showed us our true supernatural citizenship in God. We are citizens of heaven, we are not trying to attain heaven as a reward, instead we have already been identified in our Spirits as being a part of heaven already. The parts of us that are not heavenly citizens are our bodies. Our bodies are still in this physical world and would end here in this world, but our Spirits are already in the location God has prepared for them to be in.
However, even though we are still on this earth, we should see our heavenly identity as our true identity and live with that consciousness even in this body. That means while we are in our earthly bodies, we should be conscious of the fact that we are heaven citizens, so we should see ourselves as being from an honorable place, which means being from there, we should also live honorably. Our Spirits are without reproach and sinless, so living with that consciousness, we should also endeavour to live in that manner even in our physical body.
It may take a while though, and a lot of hard work. The salvation that happened in our Spirits and made us heavenly citizens was somewhat automatic. You had no hand or place in it, all you did was have faith in Jesus. However, the physical manifestation is not automatic, rather, it takes some work. The earth is governed on a cause and effect principle, what you put in is what you get out, unlike the Spiritual that’s beyond our efforts, the physical would involve some effort. See what Apostle Paul said:
Philippians 2:12 – Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear
You see that, work hard to show the results of your salvation, so you’ll need to put in some effort in this physical world. You’ll need to study Gods word, pray more, and put in effort to keep channelling your mind daily to the things of God, that’s how we keep our hearts and our actions focused on God. It may take a while and some effort, but it’s worth it. It proves that you are truly a heavenly citizen, and you honor the fact that you are there along side Christ in Spirit.
Thank you Lord for my heavenly identity, I receive strength to walk according to my heavenly identity, amen.
